DarNified Books

In Wrye Bash 1.54, Wrye implemented DarNified Books as part of the Bashed Patch tweaks, so as of v1.3.1 of DarNified UI, this is the way to DarNify your books. This method is preferable to the old manual version, as Bash will DarNify all books, not just the ones I've edited.
The DarNified Books esps contained ~220 DarNified Books and scrolls. I now have 622 books DarNified in my Bashed Patch. This includes the typo fixes from the UOP and all the books in COBL. If you're new to DarNified Books, check the attachments at the end of this tutorial for some pictures.

Required: Wrye Bash 1.54+

DarNified Books :: Vanilla

1. Right-click the Bashed Patch, select "Rebuild Patch".
2. Check "Tweak Assorted->DarNified Books" (make sure both are selected).
3. Hit OK.

That's the basic procedure. For other book mods to work, you need to do a few more steps:

Book Jackets, Grimbots DLC Book Jackets_SI :: Graphics

These mods are graphic replacers, replacing the book covers to unique and better looking covers. Here's what Wrye had to say:
Quote from: Wrye
* Mods that contribute graphics (basically the book jackets mods) should be tagged with {{BASH:Graphics}}, and imported using the "Import Graphics" component of the patch (again, make sure both "Import Graphics" and the relevant book jacket mods are checked in the Bashed Patch.
--* PA's book jackets needs to be active (otherwise it's corrections to placements of books in cells won't take effect).
--* Book jackets SI does not need to be active. Since all it does is change the graphics, then using "Import Graphics" on it fully includes its changes into the patch.

In other words:

1. Tag the book mod(s) with {{BASH:Graphics}}
2. Check "Import Graphics->[book mod.esp]".
3. Check any other esps you've tagged.
4. Check "Tweak Assorted->DarNified Books".
5. Hit OK.

Book Jackets' esp needs to be active, Grimbots DLC Book Jackets_SI's does not.

Book Placement Modified, Intelligence Overhaul :: Scripts

These need no special treatment other than load order, which is normal for any mod:
Quote from: Wrye
* Mods that add scripts and/or tweak learning, cost, etc. should load after book jackets mods.

If you've opted for a Book Jackets/Book Placement combo, Book Jackets comes with a merged esp you can use - one less esp to worry about. :)

Note: Book Placement and Intelligence Overhaul are not compatible - choose one.

Steps :: Illustrated

1. Tagging:

To tag a mod, right-click the "Bash Tags" area to the bottom right in the window. This brings up a context menu with available tags you can use.

2. Import Graphics:

Adding the tag in step 1 makes the mod visible here. If you don't see it, check the description to make sure you got it right. Both items checked.

3. Tweak Assorted:

Both items checked.

Final result:

Books that only change default books (eg. UOP) will be counted under Oblivion.esm.

So there you have it. It's really not that difficult once you get to know Bash a little. You should do this whenever you add or remove a mod that contains books/scrolls. DUI has no books, so there's no need to rebuild the patch when you update the ui.

Note: The method used in Wrye is not perfect. If the book/scroll contain no HTML formatting whatsoever, Wrye Bash will ignore it, so modmakers please use HTML in your book text! If you find a book that isn't DarNified, go to the official forums and ask if Wrye can pleeeaase do something about books without HTML formatting. :D

I'm getting ready to install OOO as it sounds like an excellent mod that adds a ton of features and I was reading through the read me while the omod compiles and noticed that there are added texts (Books and Scrolls) through OOO and I was wondering if I need to go back through Wyre Bash to DarNify these texts as well.

So I just got Oblivion GOTY and saw Darnified UI on PCGamer's list of Ten Essential Oblivion Mods. I understand all the installation steps except the last one: DarNifying the books. First off, what the heck does it actually do? So far as I can tell, it does something with the books in the game, but I can't tell from the screenshots.

The big thing is that I can't figure out how to use Wrye Bash to do this final step. There don't seem to be any good tutorials out there (or even a description of what it does except that it "has a lot of features") and the author even writes "Wrye Bash is rather complicated. If you figure that you'll just download it, double click the pretty exe file, and figure it out, you will FAIL!" So I'm just way in over my head.

Is this final step necessary at all? And if it is, is there a simple, concise way to do it? If you could help me out, I would be obliged.

Basically it makes the vanilla books (attachment 1) look like attachment 4. Much more readable if you ask me.

You are reading the only tutorial I know of for this particular process. Wrye's site has all the info you need, but it's kinda complex, I agree. The UI is kinda original too, which doesn't help newbies.

It's not necessary, but I think it helps a lot if you actually read the books.

The process boils down to:
1. Right-click the Bashed Patch, select "Rebuild Patch".
2. Check "Tweak Assorted->DarNified Books" (make sure both are selected).
3. Hit OK.

If you use a lot of mods, Wrye is crucial to come to terms with, as the bashed patch it creates makes it possible to use a lot of mods that normally don't go well together.
